Today we’re checking out a new game for the iPhone from Glass Puppy Inc. It’s called BloomDots, and the first thing I should probably tell you is that everyone here is hopelessly addicted to it.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
Okay, first things first: visually, this is a beautiful game. It’s got rich colors and luminous graphics. it really pops off the screen. Also, the audio is top-notch. You’re going to want to wear headphones to play this game, because it’s obvious that a lot of time and effort went into creating the music and sound effects.
So, BloomDots gets full marks for design. Now, what about the game-play? Well, if I had to sum up the BloomDots experience in just one word, that word would be. “addictive!”
As you can see, the screen is full of bouncing coloured dots. These dots bash and bang around the screen, colliding with different coloured bricks that affect the dots in different ways, speeding them up, slowing them down, etcetera. Basically, you play the game by tapping the screen, creating a localized explosion that destroys any nearby dots. When a dot is destroyed, it also blows up, which then destroys more dots, and so on. The object of the game is to clear away all the dots in the least amount of time, with the fewest possible taps. If you time it just right, it’s possible to clear all the dots off the screen with a single tap!
Once you’ve achieved the minimum score for any given screen, the next screen is unlocked, and you can move on and try to complete all 120 screens.
BloomDots has a truly classic feel. With its elegant, simple design and results-oriented game-play, it’s obvious that the creators were inspired by the Golden Age of classic videogames. BloomDots combines old-school arcade elegance with a high-tech iPhone twist, creating a game that is totally unique, powerfully addictive and – most importantly – immensely satisfying fun.
